刘秦玉教授二十余年来一直从事海洋-大气相互作用的科研工作,是我国海洋-大气相互作用研究学术带头人之一。 2 [( _0 o# B7 E& D. o* h 近十年来她在太平洋和南海的海洋-大气相互作用研究领域做出了以下主要研究成果: - l6 n# J) a1 K# [2 d她建立了南海对季风驱动响应的理论,成功地解释了冬、夏季海盆尺度南海平均环流的分布形态与形成机制;依此理论推断并发现南海冬季的冷舌,该冷舌将暖池撕出 “豁口”,从而影响大气对流与降水;并揭示了热带太平洋ENSO循环对季风的影响是冷舌年际变化的主要机制,再次阐明海洋动力过程在气候变化中起重要作用。. q6 {! b! L3 W8 V3 n% g5 g
她发现在夏威夷群岛以西存在风应力旋度对和海洋的卡门涡街,并用数值模式证实夏威夷群岛以及卡门涡街在海洋环流中的作用。她与美国科学家合作共同发现:夏威夷群岛与海洋-大气的作用可以导致夏威夷群岛以西一个狭长的弱风带和向东流,从而影响海洋表层和次表层温度。该成果不仅证明了副热带海洋和大气相互的耦合要比以往人们想象的更紧密,而且还揭示了海岛-海洋-大气相互作用的独特性,被美国国家航空和宇宙航行局2003年确定为用卫星观测发现的11个重要科学问题之一。
她在充分理解北太平洋中纬度海域海洋对大气强迫响应的基础上,从观测资料中发现该海域存在冬季“马蹄型”海温异常与夏季大气环流波列状异常的耦合模态。该发现为依据冬、春季海温异常预测夏季大气环流开辟了新的可能途径,也找到一个证实中纬度海洋变异在气候变化中起重要作用的新证据。 ) t4 Z/ r! { V( q6 u+ b她在其他海洋-大气相互作用研究和培养人才方面也做出了突出的贡献,多次获得青岛市、山东省和教育部的表彰和奖励。+ ` c7 A& H6 B* A 她发表的主要论文(2000-2006年): 3 W7 L2 \ n/ j. b" c$ N
